A search and detention procedure in the centres of branches of Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) in Ýstanbul and Ankara, in homes and offices of Ad. Selçuk KOZAÐAÇLI, Chairman of ÇHD, Ad. Oya ASLAN, Executive of ÇHD Head Office, Ad. Taylan TANAY, Chairman of Ýstanbul Branch of ÇHD, Ad. Güçlü Sevimli, Ad. Güray Dað, Ad. Gülvin Aydýn, executives of ÇHD, along with Ad. Serkan ARIKANOÐLU and Efkan BOLAÇ, former Chairmans of Ýstanbul Branch of ÇHD, Ad. Betül VANGÖLÜ KOZAÐAÇLI, executive of Ankara branch of ÇHD, Ad. Özgür Yýlmaz, Ad. Ebru Timtik, Ad. Barkýn Timtik, Ad. Naciye Demir, Ad. Günay Dað and Ad. Þükriye Erden, members of ÇHD, have been launched by Ýstanbul Specially Authorized Public Prosecutor’s Office early in the morning at 04:00 am on 18th of January 18th 2013.
The police have broken doors during the raids carried out in offices of ÇHD and the houses of lawyers. The search procedure has been launched without attendance of representatives of bars, which is clearly a violation of explicit provision of law.
Meanwhile, our colleagues have been introduced as members of a terrorist organisation to some media and such broadcasting has been carried out.
Progressive Lawyers Association, established in 1974, is a jurist association aiming to “improve law in the light of the history of acquisitions reached by humanity throughout thousands of years, establish a law system which is based on liberation of humanity, and democracy, guaranteed with the society consciousness, perform actions for preventing all kinds of violations against fundamental rights, right to life on top, and human dignity”.
Our colleagues who are subject to this search and detention procedure are well-known with their consistent actions. They have served as defendants in many cases related with social issues and they are closely known for this practice by jurist community.
